Deep Inner Healing For The Hurting

Anyone who has ever felt the deep penetrating sting from any sort of a painful experience can tell you just how devestating it can be if this wound happens to get deeply rooted within us. Emotional hurts and pains get deeply rooted within us the moment that we knowingly or unknowingly refuse to let go of an offense that has been committed against us by someone that we know, someone that we love, or at times, even someone that we do not know.
It would be nice if deeply rooted wounds would just go away on their own, but the truth is, they will not go away until they are called out and dealt with through the Power of the Holy Spirit - the only One who can perform a complete deliverance from the wound and by Whom healing comes.
How wounds get deeply rooted
A lot of times, deep wounds of the past are not rooted in just one offense, but several offenses stemming from one lone incident - and which grew in size as the depth of the wound grew. I will use the following fictitious story as an example:
A woman, who we will give the fictitious name of ‘Eve’, had recently found out that her husband was having an affair. ‘Eve’ became offended (of course) by the infidelity of her mate, and a deep hurtful wound was the result. Only instead of dealing with the offense right away, ‘Eve’ instead chose to ’stuff’ the wound deep within her as a ’secret’ - which is where the wound festered and grew until it was no longer just one offense, but several.
She was obviously hurt by her husbands affair and the more that she ’stuffed’ those feelings, the more she began to think about what he had done. The more that she began to think about what he had done, the more ashamed she began to feel at the ‘thought’ that she was not good enough for her husband and maybe perhaps that was why he had strayed. Then thinking that she was not good enough for him made her feel hurt all over again only now she was hurt at the thought that she was not good enough for him as well as hurt because he had strayed.
Then the more she thought about him straying again, the more angry she became, and the more angry she became, the more full of rage she became - rage that was now directed at both her husband as well as ‘the other woman’. Soon her rage turned to murderous thoughts as she thought about how she would love to castrate and kill her husband for straying to begin with(though she knows that she would never act on these feelings…..or would she? Hmmm).
After a while, her murderous thoughts calmed a bit and she began to get jealous at the thought of her husband being intimate with another woman. The more that she became jealous, the more that she began to feel rebellious, and now feeling rebellious, she wanted to go and ‘confront’ the ‘other woman’ (though she knew that she would never act on these feelings either, but she sure did have a good confrontational conversation with the other woman going in her head at the time of the thought!).
As she found herself calming down a bit, she started to feel resentment toward her husband for betraying her trust and for stepping out on their marriage. The more that the resentment toward him grew, she found that she was beginning to feel bitter toward both him and their marriage - which she now felt was just a sham.
Do you see how, as the wound was developing deep roots and snowballing, how it had grown from hurt - to shame - to hurt again - to anger - to rage - to murderous thoughts - to jealousy - to rebellion - to resentment - to bitterness - to unforgiveness and so on and so on.
Do you see how easy it is for the devil to take the same one offense of hurt and feed off of that and help it to grow and become ten seperate offenses of hurt, shame, anger, rage, murder, jealousy, rebellion, resentment, bitterness, and unforgiveness?
Once an offense gets in, it will stay there, feeding off of any old thing that comes along that will help it grow while it invites more of itself in to your life in order to keep you, its host, unhappy. Now for even worse news than that? Most offenses are actually stemming from demonic oppressions.
Oppressions such as rejection, fear, rebellion, resentment, jealousy, anger, rage, murder, are all demons that are either strongmen (the head leaders) or they are part of demon groupings that serve under the strongman. The good news? The Holy Ghost is MORE POWERFUL than any demonic oppression that Satan could ever throw your way.
However, demonic oppressions will not go away on their own. If not dealt with properly, they will only stay hidden and deeply embedded in their host until a more opportune time when it will rear its head in even more ugliness than what it had already been showing.
This is where JESUS comes in. Because we are made in the image of God, we are not meant to be oppressed by the devil. God has raised us up to become more than Conquerors through Him -“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” - Romans 8:37 KJV.
However, you must be willing to let go of the offense in order for God to be able to fully remove it from you. God does not intend for us to be held into bondage to any wile of the devil - including the pain of past hurts. He has called us out of bondage and into freedom through the shed blood of Christ - blood that has already set you free! “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” - John 8:36 KJV
Instead of hanging on to the pain of the past, we should be seeking God’s face and drawing closer to Him as we seek Him to completely remove all oppressions and pain from our lives. It is a time where we can be alone with the Lord and ask Him to comfort us as only He can do. We need to prayerfully seek Him and continue to seek Him until we are completely set free - as He intends for us to be!
Below is a sample prayer that you could pray for healing from the deep wounds of the past:
“Father God;
I thank You, Lord, that I am made in Your image and am free by the shed blood of Jesus Christ! Holy Spirit, I ask You to search my heart and reveal to me any areas of unconfessed sin and areas where there still may be deeply rooted offenses in order that I may acknowledge them to You. Jesus, I need You! Please comfort me and set me free from the pain of the past! I bind up all spirits of ___________ (name them all as the Holy Spirit reveals them to you) and I command them to leave now, in Jesus’ Name! I now fill that void with the fruit of the Holy Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and self control. I thank You, Lord, for revealing these things to me and for setting me free from the pain of the past while loving me enough to do so! In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!”
A Word from the Lord for those that are hurting
“I have heard Your cries to be set free from that which has tried to keep you in chains and shackles for so long now. Be still, and know that I am with you to comfort you and to hold you tightly in My arms, as the tears that you cry are My tears also. My child, know that I love you and know that it is My heart’s desire to keep you as the apple of My eye - loving you unconditionally until the appointed time that I shall bring you home to Me for all of eternity. My child, know that the pain that you feel shall come to pass, for I shall send forth My FIRE to destroy the works of the devil that has kept you from the freedom that I have so freely given to you. My child, do not worry, for your very life is in My hands - hands that NO MAN can come against to steal you from. My child, know that as you seek My face, the POWER of My Spirit shall come upon you and overtake you, setting you high upon the secret places of My heart for all of eternity. My child, again I say to you, I LOVE YOU - for You are Mine.”
